RORAIMA Trek     Second day

Heavy rains were during the night. Now was O.K., we found appropriate place for our tent to not to be flooded again as yesterday. Morning sky was clear and until we finished our breakfast tent was dry. Yesterday evening also Laura came to our camp and we started walk at 8 a.m. together. First hour was a really pleasant walk with the stunning views of the rocky wall growing ahead of us. A small clouds randomly appeared and disapeared in a front of Roraima which gave us impression how high really is.

As time running, sun started to become stronger and stronger, and slope become steeper and steeper. We didn't take to much water and we suffered with light dehydratation and sunburn (sunscreen "somehow" does not worked). Magic Roraima rocky wall was becomming really huge. The circle on photo showes Feliciano, and the clouds are about in the middle of the wall.

We came to Campo Base quite exhausted=dehydrated, and despite of general warnings in the guidebooks we jumped for water from the stream (we were not alone who drinks water directly, but I can't recommend it!). After base camp trail leades on sloaping platform to the top (see photo below, red dot - Base Camp). That is the only possible way up without climbing gear.

From the base camp trail sharply ascend to basement of the wall. The real cloud forest beginns. A lot of Bromelias (some one meter in diameter), mosses, palm trees and beautifull big "tree" ferns.

We found that rock wall is overhanged! On one place a nice waterfall sprunt out of rock in a palm grove. Becomming cloudy, thundery and rainy (as every afternoon). But that rain is a waterfall starting a few hundred meters above us! We passed about him astern.

It's becomming cold and before summit we are entering clouds. The plants are different, I see first "cornet" of the "carnivorous plant" and small black endemic frogs. Bizzare black rock formations are emerging from the mist. We are entering "another world" or "lost world". Here is the place where according book "The lost world" prehistoric dinosauruses should live. Same book was basis for Spilberg's blockbuster "Jurrasic Park".
